First Tea Party 2

Eric had spent days preparing for the tea party, determined to make a perfect first impression. his lace sheath dress fit him like it had been made just for him, elegant without trying too hard. He paired it with delicate dropped earrings that caught the light when he turned his head, and a double-strand pearl necklace that rested neatly at his collarbone. Even the smaller details felt important—black patterned pantyhose that added a touch of sophistication, and ivory lace-up heels with slender stiletto heels and a tiny silk bow at each toe. When he finally looked at himself in the mirror, he felt polished, poised, and ready.

She could hardly contain her excitement as she made his way to the tea party, each careful step in those heels making her feel a little more refined. The soft murmur of conversation and the sight of neatly arranged tables made his heart flutter. This was exactly the kind of event she had imagined—graceful, charming, and just a little bit magical. She paused at the entrance, smoothing her dress, already picturing him laughing lightly over teacups and pastries.

But as she gave her name, the host hesitated. A polite smile turned uncertain, and then apologetic. The invitation, it turned out, hadn’t been for her at all—it was for his roommate, who had mentioned the event in passing days ago. The realization landed quietly but heavily. For a moment, all the careful preparation felt misplaced, like a scene meant for someone else. Still, she straightened her shoulders, thanked the host with as much grace as she could gather, and stepped away. The disappointment lingered, but so did something else—a quiet confidence that the effort she had put in, the care she had taken, hadn’t been wasted. Somewhere, sometime soon, there would be a place where she truly belonged—and she’d already be ready.
